Ministers must engage with Vestas chiefs

Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland Tavish Scott has spent today in Campbeltown in Argyll where he has visited representatives from the Vestas-Celtic Wind Technology Ltd. Factory, which is currently under threat of closure with the possible loss of up to 100 jobs in the community.

Tavish Scott has demanded that Scottish Ministers fly to Denmark to speak to the parent company, Vestas, to save these jobs, if necessary.

The factory is the largest single employer in the area and its closure would be a devastating blow to the local community.

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

“I spent the morning in Campbeltown speaking with people who work in the Vestas factory and people who rely on Vestas to provide work for them.

“There are 100 jobs at stake.

“It is high time that Scottish Ministers made the trip to Denmark to talk to those at the very top of the company before it is too late.

“Everyone in Argyll is working hard together to promote the factory but Ministers have got to take the steps to engage with company at their home base.”
