SNP must drop alcohol purchase age plan

Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has demanded the Scottish Government drop its plans to raise the purchase age for alcohol in off-sales premises.

Mr Finnie’s call comes the day that the Coalition Against Raising the Drinking Age in Scotland (CARDAS) presents a petition to MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

“Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed this preposterous plan.

“There is general consensus that the Government must take action to tackle alcohol abuse, but demonising a whole generation of young people is not the answer. The SNP must drop this proposal.”
