Commenting on the Regulatory Review Group’s first annual report, which includes recommendations to improve the regulatory burden facing Scottish businesses, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

“Liberal Democrats believe that it is essential to tackle red tape, which is too often a frustrating barrier to business development and a deterrent to new business. The report of the Regulatory Review Group, set up by the previous Scottish Executive, is therefore very welcome.

“The Group's chair, Professor Griggs, is right to point out the need for a real culture shift in this area. This highlights the hard work ahead for Ministers in implementing the Group's recommendations.

"The Finance Secretary's call for an end to regulation as a 'battleground' is all very well. But from a Government that has been characterised by spin and a willingness to blame everyone else but themselves, it remains to be seen how Mr Swinney will deliver on his commitment and, more importantly, on the recommendations of this report".
