On the day that the Scottish Government have finally published their long awaited plans for moving to a ‘zero waste’ society the Scottish Liberal Democrats have warned that the SNP’s strategy has been undermined by their own budget.
Despite advice from Audit Scotland that their plans for increased recycling would need more money to pay for it the Scottish Government has removed £26 million from its waste budget.
Commenting, Iain Smith MSP, Convener of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Party said:
“It is impossible to take this government’s claims that it is committed to cutting waste seriously, when the SNP has slashed funding to reduce waste.
“Despite expert advice from Audit Scotland that increasing recycling will need greater resources to pay for it, the SNP has removed £26 million from its waste budget.
“The SNP’s bluster about cutting waste is undermined by its actions.”
