Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary Ross Finnie MSP has called for the Scottish Government’s Alcohol Strategy to target resources to tackle alcohol misuse in Scotland.

Official figures released today show that an unacceptably high number of hospital admissions across Scotland are related to alcohol, but also that the numbers vary across the country.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

“Liberal Democrats are clear that radical action is needed to prompt the long-term culture change necessary to overhaul Scotland’s relationship with the bottle.

“These figures support the need for the Government’s Alcohol Strategy be targeted at the areas in greatest need of help. It is illogical to plough the same amount of investment across Scotland, when the problem of alcohol misuse is so varied.”
