Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Schools Hugh O’Donnell MSP has seized on reports that West Dunbartonshire council needs an extra £7million to meet the SNP’s class size targets as confirming Liberal Democrats concerns that this landmark promise is in chaos.
West Dunbartonshire is an SNP-led council.
Commenting, Mr O’Donnell said:
“West Dunbartonshire’s plea for extra cash confirms Liberal Democrat concerns that the SNP Government will not achieve its promise to cut class sizes without extra money from central government.
“A Liberal Democrat investigation found that councils across the country are struggling to implement strategies to achieve the SNP’s class size target.
“The SNP provided no additional resources to deliver what, before the election, it described as its flagship education policy. Teachers, parents and pupils have been let down by the Scottish Government.”
