West Edinburgh framework leaves key questions unanswered

Commenting on the publication of the Scottish Government’s West Edinburgh Planning Framework, Liberal Democrat MSP for Edinburgh West Margaret Smith said:

“I am concerned that key questions about development in Newbridge and Ratho Station, potential new roads to the airport, and the location of the proposed rail station at Gogar remain unanswered.

“‘There are, however, a number of aspects of the framework that I welcome, including the removal of BAA’s permitted development rights in respect of car parking provision at Edinburgh Airport. It is only right that BAA should have to justify extra car parking, particularly when land is being lost from the green belt to facilitate airport expansion. I also welcome the fact that parts of the greenbelt which may be used by the airport in future have been safeguarded by the framework.

“‘I am also pleased that the SNP has signalled support for the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland’s move to the Royal Highland Centre at Norton.”
