In response to the news today that Galashiels firm Peri-Dent is seeking up to 60 redundancies at its Tweedbank factory, Jeremy Purvis MSP and Michael Moore MP are seeking urgent clarification on the company’s plans.
Commenting, Mr Purvis and Mr Moore said:
“We have spoken today after receiving the news and will be making contact with the company tomorrow morning to determine the forward plans, as they affect the employees. Obviously this is an extremely concerning time for staff. The first priority is to ensure that everything that can be done will be done to secure as much employment as possible.
“As one of the most significant employers in the Borders, this is an extremely serious situation that requires a commensurate response from the Scottish Government.
“We are calling for PACE (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment) support to be activated as a contingency.
“The Scottish Government has recently changed the structure of local enterprise bodies and we are demanding urgent clarification on which is the lead agency to provide support.”
