Water charge rise "shocking" says Rumbles

Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Mike Rumbles MSP has expressed concern over the announcement of a rise in water and sewage charges.

Scottish Water announced today that water and sewerage bills are to increase by 3.74 per cent from April. This increase is 1.64 per cent more than the Consumer Price Index. The increase means the average household will now have to pay an annual £310 water bill.

Commenting, Mr Rumbles said:

“Council tax payers who are expecting a council tax freeze will be shocked when they receive their bills.

“Water and sewerage charges are set to go up by an inflation busting 3.74 per cent, not much of a freeze here.”
