Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Mike Rumbles MSP has called on the Scottish Green Party to come clean on whether they intend to ditch their commitment to block the M74 extension in order to maintain their coalition with the SNP Government.
The attack comes after Green MSP Patrick Harvie stated on STV’s Politics Now programme that the Green Party would now be willing, after all, to support the proposed extension of the M74 motorway.
Commenting Mr Rumbles said:
“This is complete hypocrisy from the Scottish Green Party.
“It was the Greens themselves who said that the M74 extension was 'one of the worst environmental decisions ever made' and that it was ‘a complete waste of the taxpayers’ money'.
“Are the Greens so keen to gain favour with the SNP that they are willing to back Alex Salmond’s Budget proposals and betray their own party principles? It turns out the answer is yes.
“The coming Budget will be a true test of Patrick Harvie and the Green Party's credentials.”
