Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen today launched his radical plan for a 100% renewables revolution.

This announcement follows on from Mr Stephen recently having been awarded the prestigious accolade of “Green Politician of the Year”. The Scottish Liberal Democrat leader made his announcement whilst visiting the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber, one of the Liberal Democrats' top target seats.

Whilst in Inverness, Nicol Stephen will meet the Managing Director of AWS Ocean Energy, a leading wave power developer which is set to create over 2,000 jobs in the Highlands.

“Renewable energy is potentially the biggest opportunity for Scotland since the Industrial Revolution. We must exploit the environmental and economic benefits of green technology.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats are determined to seize the opportunity with a 100% renewable electricity target. We are the only party with a strong track record of delivery.

“I will introduce an Energy Bill into Parliament this September to set a 100% target for generating electricity from clean, green sources by 2050.

“With our vast natural resources and know-how Scotland has a unique opportunity to lead the global renewables revolution.

“New wave and tidal technologies will have a huge role to play. Here in the Highlands there is great potential for those technologies and that will deliver thousands of jobs.

“2,000 local jobs are planned by AWS Ocean Energy to deliver wave power in the Highlands. That is just one example of the many thousands of green jobs and billions of pounds of new investment that will be generated for Scotland from renewable energy.

“Our 100% target will help turn Scotland into the world’s green energy powerhouse.”
