Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen MSP has reacted to the UNICEF report showing the UK at the bottom of a league table for child well-being.
Nicol Stephen MSP“A lot of positive things are being done for children in Scotland, but this report emphasises the scale of the challenge we face and the need for a major shift in attitude towards young people.
“The Liberal Democrats believe we need to transform our attitude towards young people in Scotland. We need a cultural shift to value our young people more.
“A major focus of our campaign will be on promoting positive policies for young people. As well as new investment in teachers and smaller class sizes, we want to see a major shift to a more Scandinavian style of child care, with a free play group place for all two year olds and a transition year before starting school at age six.
“We also support new sports, drama and community facilities and the opening of schools in the evenings and weekends so children have more opportunity for positive activity.”
