McArthur: More transparency on APD decision needed

Responding to calls from The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) for more information on the proposed changes to Air Passenger Duty, Scottish Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson, Liam McArthur MSP said:

“It is right that we need to see more transparency over why the SNP have decided to pursue this policy. The Scottish Government has consistently relied on evidence compiled for airlines and taken the advice of a stakeholder group made up almost entirely of industry representatives. Even Edinburgh Airport admitted recently that ‘full and frank analysis’ on cutting APD has been ‘missing for some time’.

“Scottish Liberal Democrats don’t believe that, in difficult times, giving a £250m tax cut to airlines is the best use of public money or the best way of achieving our climate change targets.”
