Responding to the SNP’s U-turn on cutting Air Departure Tax, Scottish Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“The Scottish Government’s plans to abolish aviation taxes were always based on flawed logic and claims compiled by major airlines and airports. When we asked for the evidence, Keith Brown opted for the low-cost approach of sending us a link to the Easyjet website.
“Nicola Sturgeon and Alex Salmond spent years trying to start a race to the bottom on a tax designed to cover the environmental cost of air travel. They dismissed the serious impact abolishing it would have on our climate and the threat it posed to meeting our targets.
“I’m glad to see they’ve finally realised the public is not with them on wanting to fuel climate change. It has been a long haul, however, getting the SNP to see sense on this issue.”
