Responding to the announcement that CrossCountry has scrapped its plans to reduce services serving the North East and Fife, Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Mike Rumbles MSP said:
“In January the Transport Minister more or less admitted that he was in the dark about how the service franchise is run, and had done nothing about providing a solution. Thankfully the Lib Dems were there to shine a light on the situation.
“The Transport Minister was right to urge CrossCountry to change course and commuters up and down the east coast will be grateful that these changes will not now be going ahead.
“Aberdeen, Dundee and Fife need all train operators to provide a full service to drive regional economic growth.
“This is a victory for the Liberal Democrats and communities across the North East.”
