Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has said that only Liberal Democrats will build a fairer society for more people in Scotland with a fairer childcare package.
Mr Rennie is at the front of calls to the SNP Government to increase its childcare provision from 27 percent to 40 percent of all two year olds. After an 18 month campaign the Scottish Liberal Democrats were last year successful in urging the SNP to up its provision for two year olds from only 1 percent - which only covered looked after children. Scottish Liberal Democrats want more children from disadvantaged backgrounds to benefit.
Mr Rennie said:
"Only Liberal Democrats will build a fairer society for more children in Scotland, with a fairer childcare package. I was delighted that the SNP government finally listened to my calls to expand free nursery care for two year olds but at 27 percent it remains that we are still trailing behind what Liberal Democrats are delivering for families in England.
"Increasing free childcare provision gives Scotland's families a triple boost. Parents can return to work, children get the education boost when they most need it in the early years and we create more jobs in a sector typically dominated by women. I want people to have the opportunities to they need to get on in life. That is what our childcare plans do."
