What next for the Forth Road Bridge?

The closure of the Forth Road Bridge has caused huge difficulties for people in Edinburgh and Fife.

With weeks of work remaining before the bridge is due to re-open, it is vital that we do what we can to ensure that disruption is minimised. I have been in contact with hundreds of people since the closure was announced to hear their concerns, and have pressed the Transport Minister to do more to help drivers who have been affected.

Daesh - an affront and a threat to liberal values

Last night, I spoke with local members in North East Fife about the situation in Syria. This is what I had to say:

The situation in Syria is at the front of our minds tonight.

Not least here in North East Fife with the Leuchars military base nearby.

With that there should be a clearer focus on the challenge to our way of life, to liberal values, to our safety and to peace in these dangerous times.

We need a wider inquiry into Police Scotland

In 2012 I warned the previous First Minister Alex Salmond about the closure of police call centres. He laughed and said I was “spreading gloom and doom”.

After the closure of the Glenrothes and Stirling control rooms, calls from people in Fife and other parts of Scotland were transferred to staff at the Bilston Glen control room.
