A sustainable legacy

Occasionally when you are out on the campaign trail, you find yourself in the sort of situation that makes you blink and wonder how you ended up here. This morning was one of those times.

Launching myself down a zip wire that passed between giant trees and over a lake is not how I usually spend my days during elections. But I had a great morning at Go Ape in the beautiful Glentress Forest with our fantastic South of Scotland candidate Jim Hume.

Paws for thought on mental health

It is not every day on the election trail that you find yourself taking four dogs for a walk. But these were no ordinary dogs - they were Therapets from the Canine Concern Scotland charity.

These dogs work with people struggling with mental health problems and a range of other conditions. The charity does some fantastic work. If you look at the cost of mental ill health, you can see why the support they provide is so important.

Making sure businesses have the skills they need

Today, I was in the North East, with our fantastic candidate for Aberdeenshire – Christine Jardine. We met with businesses to talk about the problems they’re facing.

Everyone knows that the fall in oil and gas prices has hit the North East hard. But there are other challenges businesses in the area are facing too. One of these is a stubborn skills gap, with businesses unable to find the trained staff they need to grow.
