Liberal Democrat Scotland Spokesperson Christine Jardine MP has today warned that the Conservatives have dug themselves a deep hole as the Chancellor reveals that economic forecasts are plummeting.
Ms Jardine said:
"This timid budget shows that the Conservatives have dug themselves a deep hole and have no clue how to get out. With growth forecasts plummeting and their reputation for economic competence in tatters, this was an opportunity for the Chancellor to take bold steps to boost the Scottish and wider UK economies.
"Instead the Conservatives have failed to lift the public sector pay cap and give workers a long overdue pay rise, they have failed to fix Universal Credit and now they have admitted that the day to day spending boost for Scotland comes to just £100 million per year.
"Liberal Democrats have a clear plan to invest in people by ending the freeze on working age benefits, make universal credit fit for purpose and deliver an extensive package of additional housing and infrastructure investment."
