Scottish Liberal Democrats have called on the Health Secretary to make public the weekly figures on A&E waiting times after it was revealed patients had to wait up to 20 hours in a Portakabin to be seen at Glasgow's Victoria Hospital.
Reports today revealed that ambulances were turned away from the crisis-stricken A&E unit over the weekend. Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Jim Hume said urgent action was needed to tackle the pressures facing hospitals across Scotland.
Mr Hume said:
"It is beyond unacceptable that NHS staff are having to manage patient care in these conditions. The drip-feeding of horror stories from A&E units across Scotland only adds to our concerns that the SNP Government has taken its eye off the ball. We know the Health Secretary receives A&E waiting times figures for all health boards each week. These fresh revelations make clear that these figures must be published in order to compel the urgent action needed to tackle the crisis in our hospitals.”
