Candidate for Falkirk West
As a Liberal Democrat, I'm proud of my party's record in Government over the past 5 years.
We took the selfless decision to put county before party and join a coalition with our political adversaries at a time when Britain needed stable government in the teeth of the worst recession in living memory.
We suffered for that decision, we lost seats, we lost support but I am confident that history will judge us well. With only 8% of the seats in the House of Commons, we took hundreds of thousands of working families out of poverty by increasing the tax threshold and we have been a roadblock to many right wing Tory cuts.
And that's what you get with the Lib Dems; a strong and stable economy that isn't built on the backs of the poor and a fairer society, built on principles of equality with opportunity for everyone to get on in life.
My commitment to public service is built on 15 years as a teacher in Edinburgh. The classroom environment has shown me what education can do for social mobility. I am fiercely committed to public services and dismayed that the SNP have consistently broken their promises to reduce class sizes to 18. They need to be held to account.
