Scottish Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary Danny Alexander MP today repeated his calls for the First Minister to come clean over his currency plan B after the Governor of the Bank of England said a currency union is incompatible with independence.
The remarks from Governor Mark Carney came hours after the First Minister said "the Governor of the Bank of England is in charge".
Commenting, Danny Alexander MP said:
"The Governor of the Bank of England could not have been clearer - 'a currency union is incompatible with sovereignty' so keeping the pound is incompatible with independence.
"Alex Salmond has been pretending that Scotland can be independent and keep the pound because he doesn't want to have to admit he needs another plan. The reality is clear. Separation means an independent Scotland will not be in a currency union with the UK.
"Mr Salmond should come clean and tell us his real plan B. Voters in Scotland know that the only way to keep the pound is to say ‘no thanks’ to separation."
