Candidate for Hamilton, Larkhall & Stonehouse & the Central Scotland list
Eileen Baxendale is "delighted to be standing as a Liberal Democrat candidate in Central Scotland". "Having lived and worked in the Central Belt for nearly 40 years I have seen a lot of change. But the underlying problems of poverty remain the same. We need to provide better opportunities for our young people. As Chair of the local Children’s Services Committee I campaigned for better joined up services for our young people and am pleased with what was achieved. But more needs to be done to provide jobs and further education places."
Eileen draws on her experience as a Social Manager in Glasgow for many years and as a Local Councilor in Rutherglen, where she lives.. She was actively involved in Rutherglen becoming a Free Trade Town. Currently Eileen, with her husband Keith, coordinates an anti poverty project at her local church in Castlemilk, helping people coming out of homelessness to settle in new tenancies. "This brings us into contact every day with people trying to make a better, more settled life for their families."
Eileen also volunteers with projects to help asylum seekers.
Having a number of grandchildren education issues are also important to Eileen.
