Scottish Autumn Conference 2009 - Dunfermline

Vine Venue, Dunfermline
Saturday 31st October 2009, 9.30am – 5pm
This conference is for members only. It is not open to the general public or outside organisations.

The constitution as amended is available here

This year Autumn Conference will be concentrating on the important work of revising the Party Constitution. It was first written on the merger of the Liberal and Social Democrat Parties 21 years ago. Minor amendments have been approved since then but there has been no systematic review of the whole document in 16 years. It may now be seen in some respects as outdated or in need of amendment. After consulting with members at our spring conference we have identified areas of concern and now want to debate and amend this important document. Your input, your debates and your votes are all needed so please come along. A reformed and tightened constitution will be an important step towards an efficient Party going forward. Topics to be considered will include:

  • Basis of establishment of Local Parties
  • Role of Regional parties
  • Liberal Democrat Council groups
  • Number of Conferences and basis of entitlement to attend and vote
  • Composition and size of the Executive
  • The Policy making process and the relationship of the Committees to the Executive Candidate selection procedures
  • Process for expelling members

Keynote Speeches

During the day we will hear from Tavish Scott, Party Leader, and George Lyon, our new MEP for Scotland.

The Fringe

There will be three Fringe meetings running in parallel over lunchtime, all on highly topical subjects:

  • Scottish Environmental Link
  • Scottish Federation of Housing Associations
  • Liberal International British Group – British complicity in torture?
