Commenting on new figures showing just 83.5% of people attending A&E during the week ending 11 March were admitted, transferred or discharged within 4 hours, well below the SNP Government's 95% target, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“The Scottish Government last hit their A&E target in July 2017. Now performance has dropped 5% in the space of a week and hundreds of patients are waiting over 12 hours. The Health Secretary needs to let the concerned public know when she thinks this target will be hit at last.
"The SNP have failed when it comes to social care, mental health and primary care. This means more work piles up in A&E.
"NHS staff have told ministers that the problems in A&E can't be blamed on winter pressures. They are battling to stay on top of their work on every shift so when a cold snap or flu does hit there isn't any spare capacity.
"The Scottish Government must provide the NHS with the support and resources it needs to be able to turn this around.”
