Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP today warned that the Scottish Government must listen to NHS staff as a new survey showed just one in three staff responded positively to the statement "there are enough staff for me to do my job properly"
Tens of thousands of NHS and social care staff took part in the survey.
Mr Cole-Hamilton said:
"The diagnosis from health professionals is clear. This survey once again shows that they are stretched on every shift. They are battling to stay on top of their workloads which is why, when additional obstacles such as bad weather or flu come along, they simply don't have the spare capacity needed. This is unfair on hardworking staff and has consequences for patient safety.
"The Scottish Government is still behind on workforce planning. The next part of their plan was due at the end of last year but there is still no sign of it.
"It is time the Scottish Government gave health and social care staff the resources and support they need to do their jobs."
