Cole-Hamilton: Government miss chance to alleviate pressure on GPs

Responding to a report from Reform Scotland revealing that the Scottish Government are set to miss their target of at least 90% of GP surgeries offering repeat prescriptions and appointment booking online by the end of 2017, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“This is another NHS target that the Scottish Government are going to miss.

“Across Scotland surgeries are closing their lists to new patients and others are contemplating closure because they can’t find the staff they so desperately need. Being able to order repeat prescriptions and book appointments online saves time and resources for GP surgeries already creaking under the pressure.

“Scottish Government ministers need to look at how these online services can be expanded to relieve pressure on our hard working GPs and health service staff.”
