Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Cllr Carolyn Caddick today said that there is no room for complacency on job figures as new statistics revealed that Scotland’s employment rate is still lower than the UK average despite an increase in the number of people in work.
Commenting, Cllr Caddick said:
“Any increase in the number of people in work is to be welcomed but there is no cause for complacency in these figures. Scotland still has a lower employment rate than the UK average, we know that economic growth is flat-lining and the impact of the Brexit vote is still to be felt.
“We need a government that is focussed on keeping people in work and protecting jobs. What we have seen from the SNP government so far is no new money for the economy and a lack of ambition across the board.”
