This morning I joined some of our candidates and their children to launch our manifesto for the 2016 election.
The title of the manifesto is “Be the best again”. That is our ambition for Scotland.
With the biggest investment in education since devolution we will make Scottish education the best again after it slipped to just average.
With new plans for mental health we will bring an end to long waits and deliver immediate support so communities across Scotland have the best mental health care.
With new laws and investments we will meet our world-leading climate change targets that have been missed four years in a row.
And we will guarantee our civil liberties and give public sector staff the freedom they need to do their jobs.
This is about Scotland getting back to its best – and it’s about the Liberal Democrats getting back to our best with a positive, optimistic, ambitious program for Scotland.
Our plans would mean half a billion pounds for education to invest in early education, a pupil premium to give extra support at school and restore a college sector that has been hammered by cuts.
They would mean doubling resources for child and adolescent mental health, opening two new specialist centres and ending the scandal of young people being forced to wait more than a year for treatment.
They would mean ending top-down targets that have hammered morale in our police and other public service staff and trusting them to do their jobs.
They would mean scrapping SNP plans for a big brother database and giving power back to local communities.
Liberal Democrats have a big, bold, positive vision for what Scotland can be and how we can get there. But we will not take these steps as a country unless we have a strong Liberal Democrat team at Holyrood.
The message is clear. If you like our manifesto, you need to vote for it on 5 May. Vote Lib Dem twice.
